“An unexpected error has occurred while configuring the network bridge” when I try to bridge LAN & wireless…?
Question by Ryuu Samurai: “An unexpected error has occurred while configuring the network bridge” when I try to bridge LAN & wireless…?
I have been trying to connect my xbox 360 to XBOX Live via my laptop, because I don’t want to pay $ 100 for the wireless adapter. I have the xbox connected to the laptop via an Ethernet cable, and the laptop connected to my wireless internet. I have insured that neither connection is using ICS, and I know how to create a network bridge. However, when I try to create the bridge, I get the “An unexpected error has occurred while configuring the network bridge” error message which Microsoft, in all their wisdom, saw fit to program into the OS so that it wouldn’t give you ANY detail as to the cause of the error, nothing, just “It didn’t work, sorry”… Anyway, Can someone with a bit more knowledge than myself in these matters please educate me as to how I need to go about resolving this problem so that I can build the network bridge between my LAN and Wireless networks, thus connecting my xbox to XBOX Live through my laptop? Thanx.

Dont do the bridge, you want to use ICS. Its so easy, I don’t know why anyone even tries to do the bridge. Ive done it myself, and suggested it to numerous people already. Turn on ICS on your wireless connection. Guess what, you’re done. You’re now sharing your wireless connection to anything that connects to your laptop. Just make sure though that you are using a crossover ethernet cable to connect the Xbox to the Laptop, and not a straight-through ethernet cable. Whether you’re doing the bridge or ICS, this needs to be the case.
Edit: In my eagerness to persuade you away from using the bridge, I forgot to mention that you will need to use a static ip address on your Xbox, with the same subnet and gateway that your laptop uses.
